Background

Europe has become an increasingly popular destination for Chinese workers. When moving to a new country, many migrants face isolation, cultural shock and difficulty in integrating caused by the limited knowledge on general country aspects. This can also lead to exploitation and abuse, both at home (during recruitment negotiations) and overseas.

Solution

IOM hired Eggplant Digital to design and build a digital platform to equip those Chinese migrants. The platform runs on WeChat and the initial version delivers over 160 pages of information about 3 pilot countries (German, Austria and Italy).

Results

The App is released on IOM China WeChat official account (ID: IOMCHINA), it provides reliable pre-departure orientations including the visa process and key aspects of living and working in Europe for both Chinese workers and recruitment agencies. Furthermore, it helps IOM to achieve their mission – humane and orderly migration – to benefits migrants and society.
